Step One

The gladdest moment in human life is departure into unknown lands.

— Richard Francis Burton

It doesn’t always feel like it though, does it? When we’re pulled out of our comfort zone, or asked to do something we’re not prepared for, it seems more like the scariest moment in human life!

That’s probably what the disciples were feeling in Matthew 14 when they were on a boat, in a storm. They saw Jesus off in the distance but didn’t immediately recognize Him– they thought He was a ghost! Peter, always willing to be the first to take the leap, said “Lord, if it’s You, tell me to come out to you on the water.”

Jesus said, “Come.”

So Peter got out of the boat and started walking to Him on the waves. He was doing great, until he looked down and realized what he was doing. As soon as he thought about the odds of actually being able to do this successfully, he started sinking. He gave more credibility in his mind to what he thought was possible than to the fact that Jesus had called him–and what Christ calls us to do, He’s able to carry us through.

So I’ve got to confess to you, I have no idea how to start a blog. I don’t know anything about websites, and I’ve never even taken a photography class. But God has called us to do what we can with what we have; and I have a camera, a computer, stories, and a shadow of the knowledge of His character. So here, in The Land of the Living, by God’s grace you will hear of the goodness of the Lord. ☸
